David Foulkes
Unit 2; Greenwich Group
The London postcode that my group was given was SE10 (Greenwich), this is an area of London located in the south east, this area is best known for its maritime history and its location Greenwich mean time.
The brief of this project was to work with a group and research and create a scavenger hunt located within the given postcode. The aim of the scavenger hunt was to learn about the areas; galleries, museums, libraries, green spaces, buildings of architectural significance and relates shops and suppliers.
As a group we decided to assign the various categories to each member of the group, and also the role of organising and developing the game were given to myself and another. This this process was a good one; as it did not leave any aspect uncovered. My role within this project was an interesting one and imaginative. This role required research into the forms of scavenger hunts, including clues, goals and evidence of the completion of each task.
We were lucky to have been assigned an interesting area as there was plenty of interesting sites. I feel Greenwich Market was the key to the area as it gives a real feeling of the area. Once the research had been completed, by using various sources such as; books, magazines, web-sites and also visiting the area itself. The game ideas and structure needed to be produced; a rough game plan was developed, but had many holes in it. This structure and was only finalised on a group visit to the area.
Our group seemed to lack in communication, this is not one persons fault but all of ours. I was only notified of some of the meetings the night before and was unable to attend these meetings. This lack of communication heavy hindered my initial input; however some of my ideas (in terms of the required photography submitted) were used within the final game. In terms of the game itself, my absence from a couple of meetings did not affect the effectiveness of the game.
At the end of the day I was happy with the end product and felt any group playing our game would benefit from a researched and fought-out game. In terms of the group communication I was not happy, the next time a group situation occurs, I have learned through this unit that communication, in terms of organising meeting etc. is a hugely important aspect of a successful end product, and makes the whole process a lot less worrying.
